Speechless; Utterly speechless

“JUST COOL ME DOWN IS A BEAUTIFUL MARE WHO IS AN OWN DAUGHTER OF COOLEST AND OUT OF A ITS OBVIOUS MARE. SHE IS 11 YEARS OLD AND WAS SHOWN AS A WEANLING AND YEARLING. SHE HAS MANY FUTURITY WINS AND HAS PRODUCED SEVERAL NICE BABIES. PUMPKIN IS GENTLE AND GOOD MINDED AND WOULD MAKE A GREAT ASSET TO ANY BREEDING PROGRAM. WE HAVE ONLY HAD ONE FOAL BY HER ONLY BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY MARES WE DO NOT WANT TO BREED TO MANY BABIES A YEAR. SHE IS N/H. WE ARE RIDING HER OCCASIONALLY WHEN TIME ALLOWS AND SHE IS VERY GREEN BUT WILLING. ASKING $3500.”

Wait for it…

Wait for iiiiiitttttt….

What’s goin…

Huh?

  1. I was most horrified at first by the great hulking mass carried by such tiny feet. Then I saw the downhill-ness…sigh

    • She is NOT well put together. There was seriously a ton that we could have commented on, but the downhilledness seemed to overshadow everything and literally left me speechless for several minutes!

  2. One word:

    Navicular syndrome.

    No, wait, that’s two, isn’t it…

  3. Just want to say Thank you…The voices in my head now have someone to talk too when we see something like this.

  4. Jennifer – you’re assuming she’ll make it that long without snapping a leg…

  5. I don’t mind the top mare

  6. I particularly like how they state: “WE ARE RIDING HER OCCASIONALLY WHEN TIME ALLOWS. . .” It should be: “We are riding her occasionally because that’s all her poorly-built body can stand!” (And we don’t want to be on her for the wreck when her spindly little bones give out. . . or if she has an HYPP attack. . . the possibilities for disaster are endless!) I’m disappointed that anyone would want to use her as a broodmare – how many kinds of stupid can you be? I WISH I could say I was surprised that she’s a futurity winner, but that’s not unexpected from the awesome brain trust that is the AQHA.*shudder*

  7. Downhill build, posty hocks, and tiny feet, oh my! She really does make more sense the second way she’s pictured. It’s like they ordered the front half a size too small.

  8. Does she HAVE hooves? You could easily convince me that those are conveniently placed rocks…

  9. No if you look, they photo shopped either the same horse OR two different horses together to create the second picture…. There is some blurring and the angle is odd.. but it truly seems to be two different horses…
Or I hope so.. WOW.. what a horrible looking horse…

  10. Ouch.

    Then I laughed and laughed.

    Good God, $3,500.00?!?

  11. At least they are not advertsing her as a jumper or a dressage prospect. Wonder if her saddle come with a crupper to keep her girth from sawing off her front legs. Imagine someone barrel racing her!

  12. AAAAAHH!!!!! She looks like a Breyer that melted in a house fire…..

  13. You think that’s bad?

Guess where I found this gem. No, go on, guess.

A BREEDING WEBSITE. He’s standing at stud!!

God only knows how he gets his front end off the ground to do the deed.

  14. Here is an 18 month old Paint/Quarter/Arab/Percheron colt who spends most of his days stalled. But when he is let out, they put a baby who can barely sit up on his back! Yay!

    • I can’t even besurprise by this kind of picture anymore.Their spelling is as atrocious as their concept of safety. And why do these people always have to write in ALL CAPS!

  15. So I’m new to the whole conformation critique thing… Would this be an appropriate time to use “Long Horse is long” for this particular pony mare?

    http://ocala.craigslist.org/grd/2761547703.html

    • I’d say it’s a fine example of what i like to call the “limo horse”.
I’m no expert in conformation either, but I’m pretty baffled to how in the hell did they manage come up with a pony with such long a back O.o

  16. Oh boy!
    http://ocala.craigslist.org/grd/2742620146.html

They have 2 mares along with a 3 year old stud in the same in same paddock(?) Of course at least one of them is already pregnant: “I believe she is pregnant to the blue roan, but don’t know for sure, she is also 3 years old and has not been started. ”
    *head-desk*

    • Ah, this highlights my favorite ignorance ever… the blue roan. THEY ARE ALL GREY! That is what GREYING looks like! Not blue roan! The face (and in the case of the rose and lighter grey) legs and mane/tail are not dark!

This one just irritates me because even people in the HSUS and Jockey Club can’t get it right sometimes. *headdesk*

      • Yeah, definitely not roan, though I was far more annoyed but the fact that they may have pregnant mare and don’t even give a damn.

      • Jockey Club actually has grey/roan as the same option in the tattoo search. Hopefully they’re doing it to help people in case the examiner screwed up. Ok, I’ll give them some credit, it could be hard to tell when they’re inspecting a young horse.

        • There are no roan Thoroughbreds and gray/roan are considered the same color by the Jockey Club. (With the possible exception of some of Catch A Bird’s offspring that appear to be phenotypically roan). It’s one of those weird color terminology things.

          • Well, they do carry rabicano which is often described as “roaning” although it’s not the same gene as true roans.

I hadn’t heard of Catch A Bird before; that’s interesting. Looks like the running theory is that it was a spontaneous mutation that recreated the roan gene, the same way it did in the very first roan horse.

            • Catch A Bird is also a chimera…he’s one weird horse.

Rabicano is quite common in TBs due to a late nineteenth and early twentieth century English superstition that white hairs in the tail made a horse faster…therefore leading to rabicano being bred for to some degree.

    • Would it be cruel to email this person directly and inform them of the errors of their way? argh

  17. *ROTFL* you are awesome. this was the perfect blog post, the first of yours i’ve ever read. now to continue reading..

  18. I think it’s actually 3 horses that came together for photoshop failure. lol. Those legs should be on a pony. Why o why do the qh halter crowd insist on breeding these sad useless horses.

  19. Okay, I messed up the shed/wall and she still has no hooves, but I think I’ve fixed her:

    lol.
How I love photoshop. If only shewas actually built better than the original photo(s?).

  20. I think it is the same horse….. call me crazy but I dont think the pictures were taken the same day lol….. the first pic there are leaves on the ground…. and she looks haired up and slightly fatter.
Second Photo no leaves, She has either a sumer coat or clipped, and looks more fit.
I DO belive its the same horse, Same head, Chest, hip (she is standing different so could be throwing you off) Besides the fact that one is fit and one is fat (slightly cresty neck) They are the same. IMO πŸ˜›

But I agree on one thing……. She is not well put together!!!!!!
