That fool just killed that baby deer. Observe, don’t touch. Now mom will probably not find it but the coyotes wil. Fool.
Maggie is right! The mothers leave their fawns to go graze and will come back for them. It is instinct for the fawn to lie very still and wait for Mom to come back. Now Mom will come back and it’s baby will be gone. There is a good chance they will not be able to find each other. If you come across a fawn lying like that in the woods, take a couple quick photos and leave. Don’t touch it or mess with it!!!! The mother will be back to get it.
I agree with you both – No Touchy! But if you go to YouTube and read his desciption, the baby grew up fine. Whew!
I know nothing of deer, but according to the info with the video, the guy who touched the fawn has to move them every time he wants to mow his lawn. He apparently knows all “his” deer and their fawns by sight, and so knows that they get back together without incident. *Shrug*
The main problem isn’t that the doe “won’t come back for it.” She will.
The thing is… young fawns have no real scent, which allows them to basically disappear when they lay down and remain motionless.
When someone touches them.. that imparts a scent which can attract a curious coyote, fox, dog… etc.
Fawns are programmed to freeze first.. so, if something scents them the end result is usually a dead fawn.
k everyone has commented on the first video, so no need to throw in my opinion, but the second ome…OMG Snarky..my head almost exploded from the cuteness of it all! I had a pet doe when I was 5 for a while and she was just awesome. I know I know not the norm but she was good. Had been hand raised like this and was a big pet…stupid neighbor came on out place one day and shot her because he said she was getting into his garden. I beleive that is when all my time with my father, at a young age, came out and I gave my first cussing to a grown person.
